Enigma People Solutions is excited to have been engaged by a world renowned engineering solutions company, with a proven track record that serves the product lifecycle needs of high technology companies, to search for a talented Theme Leader for their biophotonics and biomedical optics team. Our client considers themselves an applied R&D house, and are focused on innovation and emerging technologies and solutions.

Our client provides professional R&D services to industry as a flexible and practical resource that responds to companies’ needs, as well as employing a wide range of mechanisms with which it works with companies, such as strategic partnerships, technology road mapping, contract research, collaborative research, consultancy and feasibility studies. The company is structured as a not-for-profit independent research and technology organisation, with core expertise in the development and application of lasers and nonlinear optics, with key research themes including Stand-off Chemical and Environmental Sensing, LIDAR and Asset Monitoring in the Energy Sector, and Quantum Technologies.

To be of interest for this role, you will ideally:

  • Be a highly motivated bioscience research and development professional, ideally with a postgraduate degree in physics, engineering or the life or pharmaceutical sciences.
  • Have developed optical technology for biological and/or biomedical applications and, as well as working in a research laboratory, would advantageously have experience in relevant industrial or innovation organisations.
  • Have supervised students and/or colleagues with ideally some kind of team leadership responsibility.
  • Have knowledge of product engineering and development cycles, market-oriented research and development, the generation and professional handling of intellectual property
  • Have a demonstrated ability to generate proposals and secure funding to support R&D activities.

Your research and development experience would ideally include one or more elements of the following:

  • Lasers and nonlinear optics
  • Ophthalmological instrumentation
  • Retinal prostheses
  • Cochlear implants
  • Advanced microscopy systems
  • Photodynamic therapy
  • Fluorescence spectroscopy
  • Laser surgery
  • Smart plasters and dressings
  • Lab-on-chip and/or lab-in-a-pill systems
  • Endoscopy
  • Laser-based tweezing and cellular micromanipulation
  • Neurotechnology
