Enigma People Solutions is recruiting a Senior Systems Engineer to expand systems definition and management capabilities of an award-winning company with an outstanding and highly collaborative design team of experienced hardware and software engineers.

The company is currently involved in a variety of power conversion projects, that include: high efficiency single and three phase AC to DC converters, wave-energy power take-off conversion and fully digital microprocessor-controlled converters. The Power range of these converters covers 500W to 100kW and the projects often involve industrial/academic collaboration.

The team works with Academia, consultants, design partners, manufacturing suppliers as well as their customers to provide optimal design solutions to customers’ needs/requirements and are developing unique products that will provide an avenue for sales of their own products.

Essential duties & responsibilities

This is an important role within the overall team and involves critical customer facing interaction. The Systems Engineer is responsible for the system co-ordination for projects, ensuring that the overall system is properly defined and managed throughout the life of the project, making sure changes to the baseline definition are recorded, assessed, and acted upon.

These responsibilities will require you to work with the engineering team to define and document the interfaces between the required system functions and ensure that they are adequate to meet the required Systems Requirements

You will be expected to support the project's technical lead in meeting requirements contained in the product definition, from initial customer specification to prototype and/or low scale production. As a shared engineering resource, you will work on several projects at any point of time and will work with the team members and customers to create complete system design solutions. You will also advise the engineering team on applying a Systems Engineering approach to the development of products.

You will be required to participate in the development of bids and quotes for future work and to liaise with third party vendors for items that are COTS or modified COTS.

Ideally you will be experienced in the design of interface/control electronics as required.

You will work with the Operations team to improve/implement new product development processes in Systems Engineering and, due to the small, close-knit nature of the design team, will be able to influence the future direction of the company’s technology and products through these improved working practices.

Skills / Experience

To be considered for this role, you should meet some, or all, of the following criteria.


  • Systems Architecture definition and flow-down to requirements
  • Requirement’s analysis, generation and flow-down to design level specifications
  • Preparing Functional and Test Specifications
  • Integration & Acceptance testing
  • Knowledge of compliance analysis and testing, including EMC
  • Leading engineering staff and contractors
  • Project management, including planning, cost analysis, and scheduling
  • Have an innovative approach to problem solving and involve the wider team in implementing solutions
  • Work closely with operational teams, and associated manufacturing partners
  • COTS module definition and selection
  • Electrical Cable routing, 2D harness capture
  • Electronic Schematic capture & PCB layout
  • Parts specification for procurement, BOM creation
  • Systems modelling and simulation


The successful candidate is likely to possess:

  • A Degree or suitable qualification in an appropriate engineering discipline.

The successful candidate will possess:

  • Minimum of five (5) years relevant experience in new product development, requirements management, risk management, verification & validation, technical leadership, ideally within a marine, renewables, or electrical power oriented field of industry.
  • A sound knowledge of product development processes.
  • Technical experience of working directly with customers, contractors, and manufacturing subcontractors.
  • Technical experience of compliance to quality standard is preferred.
  • Technical experience of product testing and qualification is preferred
  • Technical experience of the manufacturing of electronic products is preferred.

Over and above the technical experience, it is important that the candidate is suited to the company’s environment. The design team is a small, fast moving unit, working on multiple projects.  The successful candidate will need to be innovative, flexible and pragmatic, with good time management skills and the ability to deliver targets to tight timeframes.  The variety of the projects and their complexity means that the candidate needs to be capable of working independently on some tasks while being part of a larger team on others.
