Enigma People Solutions is delighted to have been exclusively appointed to recruit for a Laser Technician to join our client's manufacturing team in Edinburgh. This is an excellent opportunity for someone to own and evolve this long term position of Laser Technician within a friendly, relaxed but professional, growing and highly specialised business. In this role you will contribute to the laser development process from ground up. The role requires an organised and experienced technician or mechanical engineer to work as part of a growing team and contribute to all of the company’s BRaMMS DPSS Laser technology engineering lines, ensuring the readiness of electronic and some mechanical components of the laser assemblies.

Our client develops and produces novel CW Single Frequency, Diode Pumped Solid State (DPSS) lasers for demanding applications in leading edge research, lifesciences, semiconductor metrology, environmental metrology, and many other areas. They are the only company to be able to configure Continuous Wave, Single Frequency Lasers to uniquely emit at any wavelength covering the spectral range from Near Infra-Red to Ultra-Violet from a single universal technology platform, using proprietary patented BRaMMS technology. This novel patented technology provides reliable, cost effective, compact all-solid-state and class leading solutions for both well established and currently unavailable, but demanded, wavelengths. This opens up applications in portable and remotely controlled systems and devices, which have been never before considered feasible.

Responsible for:

  • Assembling and setting up of mechanical parts of Laser Head
  • Assembling and setting up of mechanical parts of Laser Controller
  • Day to day running of Pre-assembly and cleaning areas
  • Following and updating mechanical pre-assemblies, stock in/out and cleaning procedures
  • Stock control: receiving, cleaning, storage, issue of kits, stock check and system update
  • Populating laser assembly kits using BoM and technical drawings
  • Quality inspection of goods received using technical drawings
  • Product logistics: occasional packaging of laser equipment

Educational prerequisite:  

Education: educated to a minimum of HND level in Mechanical Engineering with 3+ years of experience in laser technology or related fields or directly relevant previous experience

Skills required:

  • Good knowledge and hands-on experience in general mechanics
  • Ability to work on mechanical assemblies and setting ups without detailed instructions
  • Understanding of physics principles
  • Experience of assembling laser or high precision equipment
  • Soldering
  • Ability to work in laser manufacturing lab without detailed instructions
  • Ability to work on your own and as a part of a team
  • Ability to set up and document processes and procedures
  • Problem solving , strong innovation, analytical and diagnostic skills
  • Multi-tasking and prioritizing in order to achieve tight deadlines
