Enigma People Solutions is recruiting an electronics engineer for one of our favourite clients. This is your opportunity to join a small but growing, leading-edge photonics company based in Edinburgh that specialises in the development and production of laser systems.

You will have the chance to quickly become an integral part of a friendly and collaborative team. You will be responsible for the design, development, prototyping and manufacture of control electronics containing embedded software/firmware for laser systems and associated equipment.

Key responsibilities

• Work closely with optical and mechanical engineers on forming new laser system design concepts and take ownership of the electronics design throughout the lifecycle of our products.

• Hardware design, both digital and analogue, from concept through to manufacture and test.

• Develop embedded software/firmware for laser control electronics.

• Define and documentation of requirements for both hardware and software.

• PCB layout and design.

• Preparation of electrical BOMs.

• Prototype assembly, test, and preparation of assembly instructions.

• Take ownership of project work packages, working with managers to ensure delivery of solutions within budget and deadlines.

• Propose and implement design improvements based on enhanced performance, reliability, reduced cost or ease of manufacture.

 

Required skills and experience

• Commercial design experience with a proven track record.

• Strong knowledge of electronics design (Digital and Analogue).

• Experience with low-noise, low power hardware design.

• Experience with high-voltage controllers for piezo control applications.

• Understanding of EMC issues, EMC test experience is desirable.

• Experience with embedded software (C, C++, Micropython)

• Ability to work on own initiative in a small multi-disciplinary team.

• Ability to communicate and present ideas to other engineers and across the business.

• Experience with scripting languages (Python, MATLAB, JavaScript).

• Strong organisational skills to be able to work on multiple concurrent projects.

Educational prerequisite:

• MSc in Electrical or Power Engineering (BSc candidate with applicable experience considered).
