Enigma People Solutions is recruiting a talented Design for manufacturing engineer for a world leading photonics company. Our client is a world leader in optical designing, testing and manufacturing, working with OEM customers worldwide and providing optical systems, assemblies and components for demanding applications, often for deployment in harsh environments.

This job role will support NPI projects with focused delivery of the new product designs into manufacturing. Deliver New Products from initial prototypes into volume manufacturing that meet specification and low cost requirements.

Job Responsibilities

  • To scope and design processes, implement production equipment, cost control and process risk assessments
  • To provide engineering expertise to deliver projects effectively and efficiently into manufacturing
  • To provide technical support and expertise of manufacturing processes in order to improve performance with regard to quality, output, productivity and cost
  • Constantly review and investigate industry technology improvements and suggest best practice manufacturing and processes where applicable
  • You will assist in establishing manufacturing standards, monitoring performance and analysing deviations across the manufacturing facility
  • To assist with the implementation of quality improvements, including leading and maintaining PFMEA’s and introducing risk mitigation
  • Optimise the flow of product through process balancing, management of material flow and process capacity assessments
  • Implement process flow improvements, process controls and measure of process effectiveness
  • Support and drive the introduction of new technologies into the Value Stream to implement world-class manufacturing
  • Instill the voice of manufacturing throughout each NPI project by acting as a gate-keeper and instigator for manufacturing excellence
  • Support the accurate costing of New Products through setting up effective monitoring for yields and cycle times and feeding this back into the design process
  • Ensuring products are designed and manufactured to the highest level of quality, in a safe and timely manner that will meet or exceed customer expectations
  • Performs all job duties within ISO and AS standards, regulatory or statutory requirements
  • Monitors, reviews and improves project lead times by reducing risks within the design and process development phase and driving continuous improvement through the development cycle


  • Have an understanding of NPI strategy and tools
  • Demonstrate track-record of successful product cost-reduction
  • Have awareness of scorecard KPIs, understand how the DFM actions and strategy effects site performance
  • Knowledge and understanding of Lean Manufacturing & Continual Improvement strategy
  • Use of FMEAs, Control Plans, Root Cause Analysis and Process capability studies
  • Understanding of design and process variables and how to analyse and control them 
  • Degree level (or equivalent) qualification in an engineering and/or scientific subject 
  • 3+ years’ experience in a technical engineering environment
  • 2+ year’s experience in a technical manufacturing environment
  • Demonstrate leadership skills
  • Exposure to a LEAN manufacturing environment
  • Excellent communication skills
  • The ability to prioritise and meet conflicting demands
