Enigma People Solutions is delighted to have been engaged by the emerging market leader in optical networking equipment used in data centres and telecoms sites. Entering a critical phase of growth and development of its R&D function this well funded and high growth business is looking to identify an Optical Development Engineer to join the existing team that has a track record of delivering breakthrough approaches that change the rules of the marketplace.

Reporting into the optics design team manager you will be responsible for the development and validation of new ideas. Apart from research, modelling and design of new approaches in photonic light circuits, you will spend time in the R&D lab where ideas are tested for our integrated photonic products. As part of the optics design team you will take initiative and responsibility for development tasks and research projects. Most of these programs are aimed at next generation products. As a company our client builds transceivers using internal photonic engines and are continuously improving the quality and manufacturability of these optical engines, with a short term focus on (wafer-level) test and assembly automation. Current products are deployed in hyper cloud data centers and carry 100Gb/s, 25Gb/s per laser. With each laser having its own wavelength. The four wavelengths are muxed onto a single fiber using the plc mux. Future products will carry more data, and will mux more lasers to achieve 400Gb/s combined capacity next.

Another active program is where products address the requirements for the next generation mobile networks, indicated as 5G. These products operate in antenna base stations which require specific features, like wide operating temperatures, low loss, and stringent temperature stability. You will be investigating different material systems and design options to develop products that achieve these 5G requirements with long-term reliability.


Requirements

To be of interest you will be able to demonstrate the following:

Essential Requirements:
• PhD Degree in Chemistry, Physics or Electronics
• Familiarity with Optics
• Previous hands-on experience and programming for test equipment

Desirable:
• Familiarity with reliability testing and materials screening
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
