Senior / Principal Optoelectronics Design Engineer

Enigma People Solutions is delighted to have been engaged by the emerging market leader in optical networking equipment used in data centres and telecoms sites. Entering a critical phase of growth and development of its R&D function this well funded and high growth business is looking to identify a Senior or Principal Optoelectronics Engineer to join the existing team that has a track record of delivering breakthrough approaches that change the rules of the marketplace.

Reporting to the Test Engineering Manager this senior role will lead the design, development and prototyping of leading-edge products, and seeing them through to successful mass manufacture as part of the wider team.

This is a key hire for the business so we are looking for a senior experienced developer with a demonstrable track record of complex product success. The right person will be an excellent cross-disciplinary team player, comfortable doing detailed design one minute, or fixing urgent product issues the next. Requirements

Key skills and experience:
• BSc/PhD Physical Sciences / Optoelectronics or Electrical and Electronic Engineering / Mechatronics or similar or equivalent experience
• Upwards of 5 years directly-applicable commercial experience
• Experience of taking products from conception through to mass manufacture
• Optoelectronic design and characterisation: integrated and free scale optical systems comprising laser diodes, optical isolators, microlenses, photodetectors and amplifiers, fibre optics, etc.
• Understanding at a wider system level, including BER, OMA, link margin, modulation schemes, link simulation, etc.
• Hands-on breadboarding and product prototyping, including optomechanics, software automation, analysis and reporting
• Comfortable in, and excited by a cross-disciplinary environment, including theory, design and mass manufacture, with huge personal growth potential
