Embedded Software Engineer

Job Summary & Responsibilities

Enigma People Solutions is seeking an embedded software engineering professional to join our client's expanding team in Edinburgh. The client is recognised world-wide as providing state-of-the-art motor control integrated circuits for automotive, industrial, commercial and computing applications.

In this position, you will be part of a growing and dynamic team that primarily focuses on developing mixed-signal embedded software in motor control integrated circuits for industry leading customers. You will be responsible for designing and implementing communications and supervisory software for real-time an ARM Cortex-M based system on chip (SoC) components. In this role you will gain exposure to the latest trends in automotive motors control performance requirements, architectures and implementations.




Prospective candidates should have a Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree (or equivalent) in Electronics CS&EE or a related field, and solid experience with software design and implementation at all levels of embedded systems. They should have experience in working and programming in real-time with ARM Cortex-M series microcontrollers.

  • Proven experience in software development for real-time automotive application environments.
  • Experience in developing and debugging complex embedded systems.
  • Good knowledge of Visual Studio C++ and GUI development.
  • Coding for high-integrity systems with MISRA C, AUTOSAR or equivalent.
  • Knowledge of higher level embedded automotive functions and communications, including low level protocols such as LIN, PWM and CAN .
  • Software design for bare metal programming on resource-constrained systems.
  • Familiarity with lab equipment and debug tools.
  • Familiarity with FPGA prototyping.
Skills, Knowledge and Aptitudes
  • Good knowledge of reading schematics and data sheets
  • Familiarity with analog and digital circuits
  • Good verbal and written communication, documentation, and writing skills
  • Ability to work in a multi-cultural team environment

  • Design and implement real-time software for embedded devices and systems from requirements to production.
  • Review code and optimize for performance.
  • Generate and document library code from hardware drivers (bare metal) up to full sub-systems for incorporation into internal and published libraries.
  • Provide intensive customer software support during design-in and maintenance during product life.
  • Closely interact with the system architects and engineers and with motor control algorithm developers to provide innovative motor control solutions.

Good presentation skills in English and the ability to present information in a clear and concise manner
A high level of commitment and self-motivation
