The Herald Scottish Digital Business Awards 2017: The Winners

Thursday 19th October 2017 saw the Scottish Digital Industry come together for the ninth annual Herald Scottish Digital Business Awards, and what a night it was!

As one of the most anticipated nights within the Scottish Digital Industry, these awards are an opportunity for celebrating, recognising and rewarding some of our most innovative and creative digital businesses across Scotland. The standard of entries submitted across the 11 categories was sky high this year; the judging panel definitely had their work cut out for them when it came to deciding upon the winners. Enigma People’s Director, and Head Judge, David Mains, highlighted this; “Once again, this year’s entrants have showcased the exceptional talent across digital agencies in Scotland and as ever, we have been really impressed by the standard of entries.”

Held in the Radisson Blu hotel in Glasgow, the awards are an opportunity to network with like-minded people from a range of digital businesses, both small and large, and enjoy the successes the industry had experienced this year. Over 250 attendees from Scotland’s brightest digital businesses arrived to be greeted by a champagne reception before sitting down to enjoy keynote speeches from Gordon Stevenson, Hugh Lightbody, Dr Jillian Ney and David Mains, followed by a delicious 3-course meal and then onto the main event; the awards ceremony. The evening was hosted by the brilliant David Farrell who kept our guests laughing the whole night and with great company on every table, this was one night not to be missed!

A few of the events we have been involved in…

We’ve had a busy few weeks here at Enigma. Director David Mains took the stage at UWS’s recent conference helping students with their career choices. We sponsored the Design It Build It Conference in Edinburgh which was a fantastic get together of tech minds discussing user experience and web design. And finally, the nominees for the ScotlandIS Digital Technology Awards have been revealed!

UWS

So as a former student of the University of West of Scotland (his course title making him a “BaBe” – BA in Business Economics) David was delighted to have been asked to deliver a key note at the “Working in the Creative and Computing Industries Conference”, held on March 16th. The event gave students an opportunity to ask questions and receive expert and relevant advice on everything from how to write your CV and cover letter, to what to wear to interviews. (checked shirts are the uniform of choice in this industry as confirmed by the Design it Build it Conference – more on that later.)

A few of the events we have been involved in... Enigma People Director Delivers Keynote at UWS

The students really enjoyed the expert advice David had to offer. With his 20+ years recruiting experience he helped students with:

He also uncovered some industry truths of job hunting:

The direct and honest advice was such a hit with students, Enigma and UWS will be holding recruitment workshops very soon on the subject so keeps your eyes peeled for news and dates!

Design It Build It

Enigma People sponsored the Design It Build It Conference on 17th & 18th March – the biggest event for UX and Web Design in the UK.

The sold out event had come to Scotland for the first time, and what an amazing location for it! The Hub is an iconic building which is a stones throw from Edinburgh Castle, and housed around 400 delegates who gathered to listen to the likes of Facebook, Buzzfeed, Tinder, BBC, John Lewis and many more. The subject matter experts offered two days of insightful, and inspiring talks on UX Design and Web design, and how we as users interact with the web.

The two day conference covered topics such as games console browsers, redesigning apps, UX for change, A/B testing, and getting your organisation on board with design decisions.

Where Are All The Girls?

Wednesday 8th April 2015, 6:30 pm
Speaker: Dr Hannah Dee, Aberystwyth University

A free event run by the Edinburgh Branch for the Chartered Institute of IT, which aims to look into the attitudes and experiences of younger women in tech and discuss why there are still only 15% women at undergrad level.

As a leading technology recruitment consultancy Enigma People is passionate about increasing the number of women in technology because we know all too well that in order to stay ahead as an industry we need to nurture skills and talent from an early age, and consider the brightest minds coming out of our education system.

By attending and supporting such events, and encouraging others to do the same, we aim to help the industry tap into the other half of it’s potential talent pool and help bridge the gaps in the industry.

The Scottish Device Developer’s Conference 2015

Enigma People are delighted to be sponsoring this event, to be held in Uphall on the 4th June 2015 at the Macdonald Houstoun House Hotel.

The conference is a free event, for systems engineers, software engineers and similar hi-tech developers to come together and enjoy a day of workshops, presentations and exhibitions. This is second year of the event in Scotland, however it has run for several years across Electronics hubs in Reading, Cambridge and Warrington, and proves to be a worthwhile event that busy engineers and developers will find productive. The conference is shaping up really well, and promises to be an informative forum where developers can learn about new technologies, meet industry experts, develop new skills and discover new technologies.

Scottish Businesses Celebrate Digital Success in Style

The Herald Scottish Business Awards

Scotland’s digital industry was out in full force on Thursday 24th October at this years Herald Scottish Digital Business Awards. Held in Glasgow’s rather luxurious Grand Central Hotel, the awards once again brought together Scottish businesses to celebrate their digital success in style.

Now in their sixth year, the awards recognise businesses of all sizes, and from all sectors, that have enhanced their business and client base through the use of digital technology and the internet. From almost 100 entries, winners were selected for each category based on their exceptional execution of projects across games, mobile technology, business software, public installations and social media campaigns. Event judge and Enigma People Solutions Director David Mains tells me that some of the categories were excruciatingly close with some taking hours to decide on a winner!

The high profile event consisted of up to 250 guests, all in their glad rags and sipping champagne, eagerly waiting for event host, BBC news reader Catriona Shearer, to announce the winners. The winners on the night were:

Business to Business Award:  Nucleus

Retail/E-Commerce Award: Dojo Design Limited

Public Sector Award include Charity/Not-for-Profit: Blue2

Best Mobile Application Award: 21 Awake

Consumer Engagement Award: Chunk Digital

Education &Training Award: Storm ID

Student Award: The Royal Albert Hall, Lockdown (Ryan Allan, Mark Phillips, Jordan Pollock

Best Use of Social Media Award: Nucleus

The 2014 awards also saw the introduction of the Digital Professional Award to honour the work of one outstanding individual in the industry. This prestigious award was presented to Scott Walker, Digital Design Director at Lewis, the Edinburgh based creative design and digital agency behind Hunter Boots and Scottish Power. He was awarded for his instrumental success in projects such as these and is described as the “best creative director of all time” by colleagues.

Enigma People Solutions was proud to sponsor the Digital Agency Award, the final award of the night. Judges were looking to reward an agency who they felt carried out the most advanced digital innovation in Scotland, using digital to excite, enthuse and inspire. This award was presented to Glasgow’s Screenmedia. They impressed judges with the overall excellence of their entry, detailing their market leading mobile apps, bespoke mobile web solutions and innovation for internet of things, amongst many other talents.

So there you have it folks!

We’d like to congratulate all the winners and finalists on their achievements! It is the work of these individuals and business which reaffirms our belief in the exceptional talent in Scotland’s digital sector. It makes us proud to be a part of, and help grow, a sector which is a such major contributor to Scotland’s economy. The Herald Scottish Digital Business Awards are a fantastic opportunity to showcase such talents and an event we very much enjoy being a part of. Given the successful growth of this exciting market and how this is reflected in the growth of the awards, I can only imagine how much bigger and better next years awards will be!

We Must Be Doing Something Right

untitled     MARA 2014 125x125 logo - Finalist

High demand for candidates and not enough supply, the recruitment industry has been a tough market of late. These challenges have been furthered by a record number of new agencies to have set up shop this year. With so much choice in the market, how do clients and candidates choose the best agency for them? How do you evaluate the best service?

The Recruitment Business Awards, run by Carnyx Group and The Drum Magazine, have been supporting and rewarding the industry for over 11 years. Similarly, The Marketing and Advertising Awards seek to award those who have “best confronted the changing demands of the staffing industry and displayed unparalleled excellence”. Both awards are judged by a leading panels of experts with extensive experience and knowledge of the recruitment industry and Enigma People Solutions is proud to have stood out and been recognised against our local and national competitors by both these awarding bodies.

Last week we were awarded a commendation prize for Best Small Recruitment Company at the Recruitment Business Awards. This is the 5th year we have been recognised by these UK wide awards and are delighted to have been the only Scottish company to have been awarded in this category.

This news came not long after being shortlisted for Best Regional Agency at this year’s Marketing and Advertising Recruitment Awards. We are absolutely delighted to be the only Scottish recruitment consultancy shortlisted for this category.

We must be doing something right

These awards are a reflection of the great service we offer to clients and candidates alike. The recruitment industry can be tough and it feels fantastic to be recognised for our efforts and hard work. The past year has seen Enigma People Solutions adapt our business model to better serve the market and better enable the industry to grow. Our updated testimonials page conveys just how we have helped those who have come to us for help. Our continued success has allowed us to actively grow the team in Glasgow and we are delighted to have a new member of the team joining us very soon (details to follow!)

But that’s not all

In the past year, our award winning team has grown so much so that we are now moving to a bigger, more spacious office! As of this week, Enigma People Solutions will be moving to the following address:

3rd Floor, Rear Suite
137 Sauchiehall Street
Glasgow
G2 3EW

Although we will have to say goodbye to the West End, the burger breakfast van and our favourite mushroom soup café, we are excited to be working out of Glasgow’s City Centre (and closer to McDonalds), so be sure to come and say hi!

As always keep up to date with industry news and vacancies by following Enigma People Solutions on LinkedIn and Twitter @enigmapeople

Enigma People Solutions Shortlisted for Best Small Recruitment Agency!

It’s been a rather exciting week at Enigma People Solutions! We have been shortlisted, yet again, for Best Small Recruitment Agency at this years Recruitment Business Awards.
Recruitment Business Awards - Best Small Recruitment Agency Enigma People Solutions

This years awards will be held on September 25th in Manchester’s Mercure Piccadilly Hotel. It will mark one year since I joined Enigma, and what a year its been! It will be interesting to attend the awards a year later, having learned much more about the recruitment industry, its key players and the businesses that we as in industry have helped to grow.

I have seen what a turbulent market recruitment can be, having gone from a lack of vacancies following the recession, to a ‘candidate is king’ market where candidates have their pick of jobs. For Enigma in particular we have had a very successful year with happy candidates, a number of new clients and a growing team! It feels fantastic to have this hard work recognised and to be consistently identified as one of the best small agencies in the UK.

I am very much looking forward to finding out the results of this years event. Good luck to all the nominees!

s1 Recruitment Awards 2014

photo 16

With a massive thank you to the candidates that we have worked with, Enigma People Solutions was shortlisted for Best Small Recruitment Consultancy at the s1 Recruitment Awards. The awards ceremony took place Thursday 17th April at Glasgow’s Oran Mor. Although we didn’t win on the night it was a great achievement to be shortlisted this year, especially given the changes to the business and to the team over the past year.

As you may know, Enigma has had an eventful year, with an overhaul of the team and a new approach to serving our clients and candidates. It is a fantastic achievement in itself to overcome these change and to consistently provide an excellent level of service, which s1 users have recognised and voted for us to get nominated and then shortlisted in this years awards.

The s1 Recruitment Awards 2014 are now in their third year and Enigma People Solutions has been recognised as one of Scotlands top recruitment companies each year, having been nominated in 2012 and then winning runner up Best Small Recruitment Company in 2013.

This years awards was an event the team were really looking forward to and was the perfect setting for what turned out to be a fantastic night and the ideal way to kick off the Easter long weekend. Champagne in hand, guests were invited to enjoy a delicious dinner and laugh the night away with the night’s entertainment which came in the form of Glasgow funny man Larry Deans. Adding to the excitement was BBC news reader Catriona Shearer hosting the event, Director David Mains being on the judging panel, and the after party in Oran Mor’s downstairs club venue.

We would like to wish all the winners on the night a massive congratulations on their achievements and also thank the candidates, clients and friends for the support and votes to achieve our nomination!
